Rajasthani 'Wooden Dolls'

These are some pictures from a street marionette performance that I've had the chance to watch in India. They are main characters of the Rajasthani tradition which locally called Kathpulti (wooden dolls).

  1. Great photos Angeliki! How wonderful it must have been to see authentic Rajasthani puppetry!

Earlier this year, a few of us ran a Rajasthani puppetry project in London, where we made performed a show for primary school children (the children also helped to make puppets for the show). Admittedly, we modified the Rajasthani puppets we had in order to get the range of movement we needed (e.g. we put strings on either side of the head). It's interesting to see the way the puppets in your photos are being operated, as we used one hand per puppet.

Thank you for sharing these photos with us :)
